Workflow is an integral aspect of business process, and SharePoint is designed to maximise its potential while minimizing time requirements. At its simplest level, three core simple workflows are available out of the box on MOSS lists and libraries, and both WSS and MOSS can be enhanced with workflows created in SharePoint Designer, or developed as features. What's the difference?
Out of the Box
Business users can enable the frequently used Document Approval, Collect Feedback, and Three State workflows on MOSS lists and libraries - directly from the browser.
SharePoint Designer
One layer deeper, SharePoint Designer is also available to business users, to create low to medium complexity sequential workflows for lists and libraries. These 'quick and easy' workflows help promote business process without the need for lengthy development. Update list items, send emails or manage Helpdesk requests.
Visual Studio
Not enough? Workflows that support more complex processes can be developed to your specification and applied throughout the site.
