We are often called in as IT service providers where a company has seemingly decided on a particular course of action; usually the development of a system or something along those lines.

More often than not however, we find a clear disconnect between the business strategy and IT road-map. Very often, these factors have not even been considered. The aligning of your IT and Business strategies are particularly important in deciding on your infrastructure needs and environment. If you are on a major business growth / drive, you need the infrastructure to match those aspirations. ICT remains a grudge purchase; however if not handle correctly, it will end up costing you way more than you ever envisaged or wanted.

We always encourage clients to start with a consulting exercise that will fundamentally

1. Understand and quantify your business needs and strategy and
2. Map an ICT road-map to that strategy – thereby ensuring alignment across your organisation.

Within that context, it is then easy to decide whether to develop this or that; whether to purchase software; your licensing and infrastructure requirements etc. In our experience, much money is wasted by decisions made in isolation, without considering the bigger picture and the business imperatives.
